Capa-X French Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)
Capa-X

The Capa-X French Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is a light tactical Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) in the 100–150 kg class. It features a modular architecture that enables operators to reconfigure the airframe for specific mission requirements. Developed by Survey Copter, a subsidiary of Airbus, the Capa-X addresses the capability gap between smaller mini-UAVs, such as the Aliaca, and larger tactical rotary-wing drones, such as the VSR700. As of October 2025, the Capa-X is fully integrated into the Airbus Helicopters tactical UAS portfolio. It is notable for its capability to switch between Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) and Horizontal Take-Off and Landing (HTOL) configurations, as well as between short and long wingspans. This flexibility allows optimization for endurance, speed, or payload, depending on mission requirements. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR): The Capa-X is equipped with high-definition Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) gimbals, providing persistent surveillance capabilities for border control, maritime patrol, and target acquisition. Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T): Under Airbus Helicopters' management, the Capa-X is integrated into the HTeaming solution. This integration enables helicopter crews to control the UAV from the cockpit and use it as a forward sensor to identify threats before manned aircraft enter the engagement zone. Logistics and Cargo: The internal bay and under-fuselage hardpoints can carry up to 20 kg of cargo, facilitating the resupply of critical munitions or medical equipment to forward units. Electronic Warfare and Relay: The modular bay supports the integration of Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) packages or communication relays to extend tactical networks in complex terrain.
