Description

The Prithvi Defense Vehicle (PDV) is a high altitude (50-100 kilometers) missile interceptor developed by India DRDO and designed to neutralize incoming ballistic missiles. The PDV is the replacement for the failed PAD (Prithvi Air Defense) missile interceptor. The PDV along with the AAD low altitude interceptor have been designed by India as part of a two layer missile defense system that may enter service in the 2020s. The first missile test firing was carried out in February 2017.
