Description

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) ZBD-04 or Type 04 is a 20-ton class, medium armored, amphibious, infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) evolved from the tracked chassis of the of the ZBD97. The ZBD-04 features improved armor and a more compact design for enhanced survivability compared with its predecessor. Protection against Nuclear, Bacteriological and Chemical (NBC) agents is included as standard equipment. The fire control system was improved as well. The vehicle is powered by a diesel engine allowing a top speed in excess of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) over a distance of 500 kilometers. Waterjets are provided to allow amphibious operations with a maximum speed on water of 20 kph. The ZBD-04 IFV entered service with the Chinese PLA by 2010.
