VH-92A Patriot
The US Navy's VH-92 Marine One helicopter developed under the VXX Presidential Helicopter Replacement program is intended to serve as VIP transport for the Office of the President of the United States of America (USA). The Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) contract worth $1.24 billion was awarded to Sikorsky on May 7, 2014. Lockheed Martin will act as the primary subcontractor under the VXX program. The EMD contract calls for six FAA-certified S-92 helicopters and two trainer simulators to be delivered to the US Marine Corps (USMC) between 2018 and late 2020. In 2019 the US Navy will place orders for the three lots of 17 production aircraft with deliveries completion anticipated in 2023. The US Navy requirement is for 21 operational helicopters to be delivered between 2020 and 2023. Of the six contracted S-92 aircraft, two will be designated Engineering Development Models (EDM), enabling the Department of the Navy at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland to test the platform's flight performance and mission communication system capabilities as certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. Sikorsky is contracted to deliver the two EDM aircraft during 2018. The remaining four aircraft designated System Demonstration Test Articles (SDTA) will perform operational test and evaluation, and then transition to operational status. Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training will install the VH-92 integrated communications and mission systems.
