Type 1022
The Type 1022 is an L-band naval air and surface surveillance radar utilized by the Royal Navy, designed to replace the Type 965 surveillance radar. Operating within a frequency range of 1,215 to 1,400 MHz, it features a frequency synthesizer-driven traveling-wave tube (TWT) transmitter with pulse-to-pulse coherence, delivering a peak power of 150 kW and an average power of 5 kW. Its long-range performance, up to an instrumented range of 225 nautical miles (416 km), is enhanced by the high mean-power TWT, while a pulse-compression receiver with Moving Target Indicator (MTI) improves performance in rain and against surface clutter. The antenna, built by GEC-Marconi, employs a squintless feed for tapered illumination of the main reflector, resulting in a 2.3° beamwidth and good sidelobe performance across the band, with a rotation speed of 6 to 8 revolutions per minute. The radar's transmitter and receiver components are identical to those of the LW-08 "Jupiter" radar manufactured by Hollandse Signaalapparaten BV (SIGNAAL), and Racal Radar Defence Systems is supplying a new automatic radar track extraction system.
