Description

The Medium-weight Laser Guided Bomb (MLGB) is a light advanced smart munition featuring a dual mode Semi-Active Laser (SAL)/GPS guidance system. The 115-kg MLGB guided weapon has been optimized for light combat aircraft but can be released by any attack fighter aircraft. It can engage both stationary and moving targets on the ground using its laser homing capability and achieving hit accuracy below 1 meter Circular Error Probable (CEP). An advanced multi-mode fuze allows the warhead to detonate by impact, proximity over the target or delayed against buried targets. Target and mission parameters are loaded into the MLGB prior to its release. Upon release, a midcourse navigation trajectory is executed with transition to terminal homing taking place in the final flight stage, using a combination of GPS and SAL guidance. The lightweight warhead has been designed to take out a variety of targets with minimum collateral damage. IAI unveiled the MLGB bomb at the Paris Airshow in June 2011.
