Description
The AN/TPX-50 is a secondary surveillance radar (SSR) manufactured by Hazeltine, functioning as a high-resolution, short-range, low-power Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) interrogator set. It operates using the IFF/SIF Mark XII standard, transmitting at 1030 MHz and receiving at 1090 MHz. This system works in conjunction with a primary radar, which provides synchronizing triggers 460 microseconds prior to radar zero time; these triggers are then divided into a smaller pulse repetition frequency (PRF) ranging from 375 to 450 Hz to mitigate 'fruit' (unwanted asynchronous replies). The AN/TPX-50 has a peak power of 360 W and an average power of 1 W.
