Description

The ORKA-1200 VTOL, also known as the VSR 700, is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed to complement maritime aircraft and helicopters. It is expected to operate from frigates and corvettes equipped with electro-optical (IR/CCD-TV and optional laser designator) and radar sensors. It will provide sea surveillance and over-the-horizon targeting, identification and battle damage assessment capability. The VTOL UAV will take off and land vertically even under rough sea conditions. This aircraft will be controlled through a shipboard multifunction console. In October 2016, DCNS and Airbus Helicopters agreed to develop the VSR 700 tactical unmanned rotorcraft to meet the requirements of the French Navy SDAM program. Airbus Helicopters will take the responsibility of developing the VSR 700 while DCNS will take care of the aircraft integration into naval platforms. The Systeme de Drones Aeriens de la Marine (SDAM) or Navy Aerial Drones System is intended to deliver an unmanned rotorcraft suitable for shipborne operations by 2020.
