Description

The Fiber Optics Guided Multi Purpose Missile (FOG-MPM) is a guided weapon system developed by Avibras Aeroespacial to engage armored vehicles, helicopters, bunkers and field fortifications. Its fiber optic non line-of-sight guidance system allows the weapon system's operator to guide the missile to the acquisition and destruction of the target. The use of fiber optics also makes the missile immune to enemy ECM (Electronic Counter Measures). The FOG-MPM basic estimated range is 20 kilometers, and has the possibility to be further extended to over 100 kilometers, but other sources claim that the maximum range varies from 12 to 60 kilometers. This standoff weapon is suitable for launch from multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) such as Astros II, helicopters and surface ships. As of 2010, the FOG-MPM missile system is still under development at the testing phase for the Brazilian Armed Forces and export customers already operating Astros II artillery system.
