Description

The Bozdogan, Merlin in English, is a short-range air-to-air missile developed domestically by Turkey as the replacement for the US-manufactured AIM-9X Sidewinder missile. The Bozdogan was developed by the Defense Industries Research and Development Institute (SAGE) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) within the GOKTUG program. It was unveiled in May 2017 and was first test-fired in the Black Sea region in 2018. The Bozdogan missile is expected to be deployed onboard the Akinci combat drone beginning in 2021.
