The first Tu-95MSM bomber prototype was delivered to the Russian Air Force on November 21, 2015. These upgraded aircraft can carry up to eight Kh-101/kh-102 cruise missiles externally and their service life has been extended for another 10 years. The serial production Tu-95MSM aircraft first flew on August 22, 2020. The upgraded aircraft features active electronic scanned array radar (AESA), the Meteore-NM2 electronic warfare (EW) system intended for self-protection only, upgraded navigation system, new flight information display system, new weapons fire control system and improved engines. The Russian Air Force plans call for the Tu-95MSM fleet (20-30 airplanes) to remain in active duty until 2040 at least.
