Type 346
The Type 346, also known as "Star of the Sea" by its owner and designated "Dragons Eye" by NATO, is a naval F/G-band dual-band multimode radar. Operating across frequencies of 3.0–3.4 GHz and 5.25–5.95 GHz, it is installed on Chinese Type 052C Luyang II-class destroyers and has an instrumented range of 150 nautical miles (approximately 280 km). The system utilizes four fixed-face phased array antennas, each comprising 1,524 transmitter/receiver modules, and shares similarities with the AN/SPY-1 radar. Its F-band channel is dedicated to surveillance, while the G-band channel is used for missile guidance. The Type 346A is projected as its replacement, featuring more active transmitter/receiver modules and a larger aperture, which is expected to extend its detection range up to 400 km and enhance performance against various threats.
