Description

The BAE Land Systems OMC of South Africa Wasp, also known as Hornet within the South African Armed Forces, is a light and compact vehicle intended to provide support for rapid deployments carried out by airborne and special operations forces. This Rapid Deployment Reconnaissance Vehicle (RDRV) can serve as personnel carrier, 60mm mortar carrier, anti-tank missile carrier, gun carrier, hostage release vehicle, surveillance vehicle, command vehicle and reconnaissance vehicle. Its lightweight design allows for transportation by both rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft. A single C-130 sized aircraft can transport as many as four Wasp light vehicles that can be dropped by parachute. So far, South Africa has ordered 25 Wasp/Hornet vehicles.
