Nostradamus
Nostradamus (NOuveau Système TRAnshorizon Décamétrique Appliquant les Méthodes Utilisées en Studio) is a French military Over-The-Horizon Backscatter (OTH-B) radar system developed from the STUDIO (Système de Traitement Universel de Diagnostic IOnosphériques) research project. Operating in the HF band (3-30 MHz), it has an instrumented range of 800 to 3,000 km. Its monostatic antenna array comprises 288 bi-conical radiators arranged in three Y-shaped groups, each 384 meters long and 80 meters wide; only radiators within a 120-meter radius are used for transmission. Nostradamus can electronically steer its sounding signal in any direction and became operational in the early 2000s.
