Description

The 5V55 is a family of highly supersonic, surface-to-air missiles used with the S-300 family of high performance, medium-range air defense systems. The 5V55 missile has a radiofrequency based guidance system and a maximum speed of approximately Mach 5.5. The 5V55s may serve as anti-ship missiles against large ships for the naval variant of S-300, the S-300F. The 5V55R variant is a medium range missile suitable against airborne and surface targets at distances of up to 90 kilometers.
