Description
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) SR-5 is a next generation 220mm long-range, multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) developed by China as part of state-of-the-art military technology program. It is similar to the Russian Army Smerch-M rocket system but adding the ability to launch guided rockets of different calibers. It was first unveiled at the China Air Show in November 2014. Besides guided and unguided rockets, the SR5 is capable of firing loitering munitions such as the Loitering Dragon series. It uses a high mobility 6x6 truck system and considered the Chinese counterpart of the US Army HIMARS system. The SR5 entered service in 2015 and has been exported to Venezuela so far.
