Description

The AN/TPQ-48 Lightweight Countermortar Radar (LCMR) is an L-band battlefield radar developed by Syracuse Research Corporation for the Special Operations Command (SOCOM). Designed as a man-portable, compact system, it enables forces to locate the origin of indirect fire attacks. The radar utilizes an electronically scanned antenna, providing a unique 360-degree detection capability, unlike most radars limited to 90 degrees or less. With an instrumented range of 7,000 meters, it can locate firing systems with an accuracy of 100 meters, predict impact points, and issue incoming round warnings. The system can operate for several hours on vehicle batteries and has been a valuable asset for forces like the Marines facing frequent indirect fire threats.
