Description

The DF-5, CSS-4 Western designation, is a three-stage, liquid-fueled, silo-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) developed in China. Its development started in the 1970s, performing the first full-range test in May 1980s and achieving initial operational capability with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 1983. It has a maximum range of more than 13,000 kilometers and is nuclear capable fitted with a single warhead. The initial variant, DF-5, was nuclear capable fitted with a single warhead. The follow-on variants have been equipped with Multiple Independently Reentry Vehicles (MIRVs) with greater yield and accuracy.
