AN/TPN-31 ATNAVICS
AN/TPN-31 ATNAVICS
The AN/TPN-31 ATNAVICS mobile radar system meets surveillance and precision approach radar for controlling and landing fixed and rotary wing aircraft requirements. In addition, ATNAVICS is highly mobile, with a simplified set-up and reliable operation needed for rapid deployment, any place in the world. One complete ATNAVICS system is transportable in a single C-130 Hercules aircraft or several CH-47 helicopter. The ATNAVICS system consists of a radar vehicle, an operations control vehicle and two XM1102 tactical power generator (10Kw) trailers. HMMWVs are the baseline ground vehicles that support the ATNAVICS system. The radar vehicle contains an S-band surveillance radar (46 Km), an L-band secondary surveillance/IFF radar (112 Km) and an X-band precision approach radar (18 Km). The operations HMMWV vehicle can operate up to 1,000 meters from radar HMMWV via fiber-optic link, the radar/sendor HMMWV uses Raytheon's proven AutoTrac 2000 automation software and only needs 2 crew-operators. The US Army plans call for the purchase of up to 37 ATNAVICS radar systems. As of 2006, Raytheon has delivered 24 air traffic management systems to the US Army over seven years. In August 2006, the US Army awarded Raytheon a contract having a potential value of $200 million for the procurement of the AN/TPN-31 Air Traffic Navigation, Integration and Coordination System (ATNAVICS) and the AN/FPN-67 Fixed-Base Precision Approach Radar (FBPAR). The US Army signed for 30 ATNAVICS and 9 FBPAR systems over the five-year contract while the US Navy and the US Marine Corps signed for 12 ATNAVICS for Marine Expeditionary Force use.
