Description

The Rustom is a Medium-Altitude, Long-Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) developed by the Indian Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) to meet the requirements of the Indian Air Force, Navy and Army. This UAV will operate at ranges of over 300 km carrying a payload of 200 kg with an endurance in excess of 24 hours. Other sources suggest that the flight endurange is 12-15 hours (Rustom-I). Rustom will carry out Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions. Besides, it will serve as communications relay aircraft. The first prototype is expected to get airborne by 2012. In March 2012, the program was re-named Rustom-2 with the first flight scheduled for February 2014.
