Description

The BANG (Bombe Aéronavale de Nouvelle Génération/ New Generation Aero Naval Bomb) represents a new generation of insensitive bombs for the French Armed Forces developed in conjunction by MBDA and SNPE. The BANG warhead flexibility allows the weapon to be used from penetration of hardened targets to variable fragmentation and blast of semi-hardened and soft targets. In addition, the weapon can fitted with precision guidance kits based on laser, infrared, GPS or INS homing head such as BGL and AASM. As an insensitive munition, the BANG bomb can be used safely and stored easily. The French Defense procurement agency DGA launched the BANG program in May 1997 with the first BANG bombs entering the French Air Force and Navy inventories in 2000.
