Description

The US Army's Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) is a family of medium armored vehicles intended as the replacement for the Vietnam-era M113 tracked armored personnel carrier and its variants. The new vehicle family is expected to be far more survivable and mobile than the M113s utilizing the M2 Bradley chassis. BAE Systems was awarded a 52-month $383 million contract for the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development (EMD) phase of the AMPV program on December 23, 2014. Five variants are envisaged at this stage of the program: General Purpose, Mission Command, Mortar Carrier, Medical Evacuation and Medical Treatment. The EMD phase will be completed by 2019 and the new AMPV vehicles may achieve initial operational capability by 2020 or later.
