Description
The Russian Navy Project 21820, also known as Dyugon or Ataman Platov, is a class of landing craft designed to deliver three main battle tanks (T-72B, T-80 or T-90) or five wheeled armored vehicles (BTR-80 or BTR-82). The 280-ton class Dyugon landing craft carries 140 tons of cargo over a range of 500 nautical miles and is equipped with two KPV 14.5mm machine guns. The propulsion system consists of two 9,000-hp M507A-2D diesel engines developing a top speed of 35 knots using waterjets. These boats can deal with waves as high as 0.75 meters at full speed. The Russian Navy commissioned the lead ship of this class, the Ataman Platov, in 2010 and four more vessels are planned for 2015.
