Description

Mirage F1 is a light single-engine multi-role fighter aircraft developed by Dassault as a successor for Mirage III. It is powered by an Atar 9K-50 turbofan engine rated at 15,800-lb of thrust with afterburning allowing for March 2.2 top speed. It was equipped with upgraded Cyrano IV radar. Mirage F1 was ordered by the French Air Force with deliveries stating in 1973. Over 10 international air forces also ordered this aircraft type. Iran obtained its F1s from Iraqi Air Force which flew to Iran to get shelter during the Gulf War in 1991. Overall, Mirage F1 is suitable for air-to-air and air-to-surface roles. F1B and F1D are two seat variants. F1C was the standard model in the French Air Force in the early 1980s. Mirage F1CT and F1CR are upgraded aircraft for air-to-ground and reconnaissance roles. French Air Force plans call for Mirage F1s to be replaced by far more capable Rafale C/Bs before 2015. F1s operated by international air forces are being upgraded or retired following the availability of more capable multi-role aircraft such as Rafale, Typhoon, F-16, Gripen etc.
