Description

The RDY (Radar Doppler modele Y) and RDM (Radar Doppler Multi Target) are X-band, multi-role, multi-function fire-control radars manufactured by Thales (formerly Thomson CSF) in France. Development of the RDY began in 1984, becoming operational in 1996 on the Mirage 2000-5. These radars provide multi-target capabilities for navigation and weapon systems, including guiding semi-active missiles, and feature a traveling wave tube transmitter and a mechanically scanning flat plate antenna with low secondary lobes. The RDY-2, a modernized version, offers a 15% greater air-to-air range, detecting fighter-sized targets at 140 km, and includes a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mode for ground mapping with sub-meter resolution and refined moving ground target tracking. The latest iteration, RDY-3, further improves SAR/GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indication) modes for enhanced ground situational awareness and target tracking, and is available with various antenna sizes for modernizing light and medium multi-role fighters like the Mirage V, Mirage F1, Mirage 2000, Mig-29, and LCA/Tejas. The RC400 is a lower-powered variant of the RDY-2, utilizing a smaller antenna and offering reduced performance.
