Description

The Talley Defense Bunker Defeat Munition (BDM) is a man-portable, shoulder-launched, single shot rugged disposable version of the US Marine Corps' SMAW weapon system. It was designed for use by the US Army to take out field fortifications, including earth and timber bunkers; urban structures; and light armored vehicles. The BDM admits quick attachment of AN/PVS-4 night sight, AN/PAQ-4 or AN/PEQ-2 laser aiming lights. The weapon was successfully employed in operation Desert Storm (Iraq 1991), operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan 2001) and operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq 2003). The BDM weapon uses the SMAW's High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) warhead that can breach 8-inch reinforced concrete walls and 12-inch triple brick walls. The warhead also features a target-sensitive fuze designed to select the proper detonation mode to maximize warhead destructive effects on soft or hard targets. Against soft targets the fuze delays warhead detonation until rocket is buried deep into target. The fuze detonates immediately upon impact with target.
