Description
The Polaris is a conventionally powered icebreaker ordered in 2014 and operated by the Finnish State since September 2016. The 10,000-ton class diesel-electric icebreaker can deal with ice of a thickness of up to 1.2 meters. In 2025, the United States of America (USA) ordered 11 Polaris class icebreakers with four to be built in Finland and seven in the USA with the first one to be commissioned in 2028. The deal was valued at $6 billion.
