JY-11 “Hunter-1”
The JY-11 “Hunter-1” is a 3D air surveillance radar utilizing state-of-the-art semiconductor technology, primarily functioning as a gap-filler within regional air defense networks. It provides medium to low-altitude target indication for anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) batteries or surface-to-air missile (SAM) units. The radar employs a phased array that electronically scans in elevation via frequency scanning while mechanically rotating in azimuth, covering a 30-degree elevation range with 14 beams. Two beams are dedicated to wide-area detection, and four layers of three beams each cover medium ranges, operating within a frequency range of 2.7 to 3.4 GHz with a peak power of 13.5 kW and an instrumented range of 220 km. The system offers high sidelobe attenuation, strong interference immunity, and a constant false alarm rate, with a range resolution of 200 meters and accuracy of ±100 meters and ±0.5 degrees. The mobile JY-11 system, transportable by three trucks, consists of an antenna/transmitter unit, radar electronics and operator shelter, and a supply shelter with a diesel generator, capable of deployment and withdrawal within 20 minutes. The JY-11B is a self-propelled variant featuring enhanced accuracy and maximum range, with its antenna mounted on a hydraulically controlled tower to improve coverage against very low-altitude targets.
