Type 96 Japanese 8x8 Armored Personnel Carrier



The Type 96 Japanese 8x8 Wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) is built by Komatsu, Tokyo, Japan. The vehicle is equipped with a central tire-inflation system and the front four wheels are steerable. The vehicle is capable of continuing movement with whenever one of the wheels is damaged or completely destroyed. The APC crew consist of 2 (driver and commander/gunner) with the driver located on the front right of the vehicle. The commander/gunner occupies a position in a raised cupola with a single-piece, rear-opening hatch. behind the driver. The cupola has day periscopes for 360 degree observation and is capable of mounting a .50 caliber machinegun or the Type 96 40-mm automatic grenade launcher. This is an 8x8 Wheeled APC designed to transport 8 infantryman on a battlefield. The APC is not amphibious. Troops enter and exit the APC through a hydraulically operated ramp located at the rear of the APC. Or, the troops can enter and exit through the five hatches on the roof (three on the left and two on the right) or through a door located on the rear ramp.
