Description
The US Navy's Extra Large Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (XLUUV) Orca is a program aimed at delivering underwater awareness capabilities as well as payload delivery. The long-range XLUUV is being developed by Lockheed Martin to perform a variety of missions utilizing a reconfigurable payload bay. The underwater vehicle can operate autonomously in a designated area transmitting data to its home submarine or delivering payloads and transit back to its carrier submarine once the mission has been completed. The XLUUV may enter service in the early 2020s.
