Description
The RIR 980 (Range Instrumentation Radar) is an experimental, computer-based auto-tracking radar developed by BAE Systems in the United Kingdom. Operating in the C-band, it features a 1 MW peak power transmitter with a magnetron, delivering an average power of 1 kW and offering pulsewidths of 0.25, 0.5, or 1 µs. The system has an instrumented range of 280 km and can be deployed in mobile, transportable, or fixed installations. Its design allows for customization, including parabolic reflectors available in 12 or 16-foot sizes for C-band operation, with provisions for integrating an infrared or TV camera.
