Description

The advanced F-15SG is based upon the F-15E Strike Eagle. It was selected by the Republic of Singapore to replace its A-4SU Skyhawk attack aircraft in late 2005. The development and production contract was awarded to Boeing in December 2005 which included 12 firm aircraft with an option for eight additional fighter jets to be executed at a later date. F-15SG deliveries to the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RoSAF) were scheduled to take place in 2008 and 2009. The first flight took place on September 16, 2008 and the aircraft RoSAF declared the aircraft operational in April 2010. In October 2007, Singapore ordered a further 12 aircraft with deliveries due to complete in 2012. In October 2010, Saudi Arabia ordered 84 new build F-15SA, a version of the F-15SG, and 68 upgraded F-15E/S aircraft to the SA standard. The first F-15SA aircraft are due to enter service by 2015. The F-15SG multi-role combat aircraft is equipped with the most technologically sophisticated avionics and weapon systems provided to an F-15 aircraft. Singapore selected the F-15SG aircraft after close competition between Boeing's F-15 and Dassault's Rafale 4+ generation multi-role fighter aircraft. According to the French Ministry of Defense Singapore's decision was influenced by the US Dollar rating by comparison with the Euro. In early January 2006, the Government of Singapore selected General Electric F110-GE-129 engine rated at 29,000 pounds of thrust to power its newest F-15SG combat aircraft. US Air Force F-15E aircraft are powered by F100 engines. In April 2006 Boeing selected Lockheed Martin to provide Sniper Advanced targeting pods, Tiger Eyes navigation pods, and an Infrared Search and Track (IRST) System for the Republic of Singapore F-15SGs. Under an undisclosed fixed-price five-year contract this advanced electro-optical sensor suite will be integrated into the F-15SG aircraft beginning in the second quarter of 2007.
