Description
The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) 33DD, also known as DDR after Destroyer Revolution, is a new class of destroyers expected to be commissioned beginning in the mid-2020s to serve as escort ships. The 33DD destroyer is the successor to the 25DD destroyer class and will feature Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) hull. The ships will be designed and built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and may leverage the FCS-3A active phased array radar used on previous destroyers. These ships may be intended as multi-purpose surface combatants but focused on anti-submarine warfare (ASW).
