DF-31

The Dong Feng 31, also known as DF-31 and CSS-10 East Wind Mod 1 in the West, is an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) designed to carry up to three Multiple Independently targetable Reentry Vehicles (MIRVs) armed with a single nuclear warhead each. It is a solid-fueled, three stages, silo-based ballistic missile with a maximum range of 8,000 km. There are no official plans released about the pace and total procurement for the DF-31 ballistic missile, but about 100-200 DF-31s fielded by 2020 seems to be likely. DF-31s and future DF-41s should be the basis of land-based Chinese nuclear strategic forces in the 21st century. The DF-31 long range make possible to hit any target located in Asia and the most part of European territory excepting Spain and limited areas of France, United Kingdom and Italy. The DF-31 is be able to hit targets located in Alaska, Canada and Washington while the rest of US territory will remain safe out of its reach. Initially the DF-31 missile was armed by a single 1 Megaton nuclear warhead but a MIRVed (multiple warheads) version was fielded to counter ABM defenses.
