Description

The Advanced UH-60J is a Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter produced under license from Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Japan by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). Moreover, the aircraft is designed to provide humanitarian and disaster relief. In December 2010, the Japanese Ministry of Defense selected MHI to supply the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) with 40 Advanced UH-60J helicopters in a deal worth 190 billion yen ($2.3 billion) over the life of the program, including 20 years of logistics support. The new aircraft will replace the aging fleet of 40 UH-60J helicopters built in the early 1990s. The MHI Advanced UH-60J helicopter will enjoy a service life of 20 years. The aircraft includes a removable air refueling probe to refuel from tanker aircraft while airborne, satellite communications and a collision avoidance system.
