Description

The Patriot PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) upgrade consists of the PAC-3 missile, a highly agile hit-to-kill interceptor, the PAC-3 missile canisters (in four packs), a fire solution computer and an enhanced launcher electronics system. The resulting weapon system can engage tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and manned/unmanned aircraft. The PAC-3 MSE weapon provides increased performance, greater altitude and range than the basic PAC-3 missile. The new PAC-3 missile variant incorporates threat-driven and technology-enabled hardware and software upgrades to defend against the advancing threat set. In 2006, the PAC-3 MSE missile was selected as the primary interceptor for the MEADS advanced air defense system. The first PAC-3 MSE missile was test fired in June 2008. An initial operational capability with the MEADS air defense missile system is anticipated by 2012.
