Description

The Theater High-Altitude Area Defense Interceptor consists of a kill vehicle and a booster. The kill vehicle is powered by the Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) and provides high maneuverability to successfully achieve the hit-to-kill interception with the incoming ballistic missile. The kill vehicle also contains a state-of-the-art guidance system to successfully intercept short and medium range ballistic missiles. The THAAD flight-testing series will be carried out between 2004 and 2009. The initial operational capability is expected in 2007. The missile will be manufactured at Lockheed-Martin's facilities in Troy, Alabama.
