Description

The T-AGM 25 USNS Howard O. Lorenzen missile range instrumentation ship is the support platform for the Cobra Judy Replacement (CJR) radar program designed to provide worldwide, high-quality, high-resolution, multi-wavelength radar data. The US Navy awarded VT Halter Marine a $199 million design and construction contract on September 27, 2006. Construction is slated to start in 2008 at VT Halter Marine shipyard in Pascagoula, Missouri. Delivery to the US Navy's Military Sealift Command is expected to happen in the first half of 2010. The ship was accepted by the US Navy on January 10, 2012. She will achieve initial operational capability in 2013. The T-AGM 25 will monitor missile launches gathering data to be used to improve missile efficiency and accuracy. Besides, the ship will take care of monitoring strategic arms treaties and support US military weapons test programs. VT Halter Marine designed this mono-hull vessel in partnership with AMSEC. The new ship is a further development of the existing AMSEC T-AGS 39 design. The ship will host embarked military and civilian technicians from other US government agencies conducting missions sponsored by the US Air Force.
