Description

The Orca is an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) being developed by Boeing to meet the requirements of the US Navy based upon the Echo Ranger submersible vehicle design. The 50-ton, 84-ft long Orca is expected to perform attack missions against surface ships, submarines and sea mines operated from surface ships. Besides, the platform is also being designed to conduct electronic warfare (EW) missions and launch of nuclear weapons (torpedoes). The Orca is equipped with advanced sensors and can navigate autonomously having a maximum range of 6,500 nautical miles (+11,000 kilometers) and diving to depths of up to 11,000-ft. The vehicle also features outstanding sea endurance and sensing capabilities. The US Navy is expected to take delivery of the first Orca underwater vehicle by 2022.
