Description

The Light Armored Vehicle Reconnaissance Surveillance System (LRSS) is an integrated sensor system designed to fit into a variant of the Canadian Army LAV III wheeled armored vehicle. The LRSS allows real-time, on-the-move intelligence, surveillance and target acquisition and reconnaissance capabilities (ISTAR). The sensor system creates high fidelity actionable information at the point of collection inside the vehicle reporting directly to the base commander. The system allows on-board imagery exploitation and to receive auto-cueing information from unmanned aerial vehicles and unattended ground sensors. In addition to the vehicle mounted LRSS, the sensor system can be deployed using tripods. The LAV III-based LRSS system was developed by Raytheon along with SRI Sarnoff (video processing) and Will-Burt Company (telescopic mast). The first prototype was handed over to the Canadian Army in 2012.
