Broadband Radar BR24
The Broadband Radar BR24 was a naval Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar system operating in the X-band (9.3-9.4 GHz). It offered high target resolution across its instrumented range of 50 meters to 45 kilometers, with a range resolution of less than 1 meter. The system transmitted at a very low average power of 100 mW, making it suitable for vessels with limited power availability. Its operational principle involved transmitting a continuous wave with linearly increasing frequency, calculating target distance based on the frequency difference between the transmitted and received signals. This allowed for superior target detection compared to pulse radars at significantly lower energy levels. The BR24 is a discontinued product, succeeded by the Simrad 3G, which uses the same technology, and the Simrad 4G, which incorporates Doppler Beam Sharpening.
