Description

The ARTHUR (ARTillery HUnting Radar) is a fully coherent, broadband battlefield radar system that utilizes a Traveling Wave Tube transmitter and a passive phased array antenna. Operating between 5.4 and 5.9 GHz, it can electronically scan a 90-degree azimuth sector and elevation to detect and track up to eight flying shells simultaneously, processing data for over 100 targets per minute. Upon detection, ARTHUR immediately calculates a projectile's trajectory and determines its launch site with high accuracy, transmitting this data to friendly firing platforms, including air force assets. Its typical working range is 15 km, extending to 20 km for artillery shells and 30 km for rockets, with an instrumented range of 25 nautical miles. The system can also track friendly shells to calculate impact points and prioritize targets for counterfire, and it is transportable by C-130 aircraft and helicopters. Since 2004, it has been in service with the British Army as MAMBA (Mobile Artillery Monitoring BAttlefield Radar).
