Kamorta

The Indian Navy's Kamorta Indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette is a class of four ships built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). These vessels are fitted with state-of-the-art technology and feature a 76mm naval gun system, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) weapons including torpedoes and rockets, stealth design and aft flight deck and hangar. The Indian Navy awarded GRSE the contract for the design and construction of four ASW corvettes in 2004 with the lead ship to be commissioned in 2011/2012. Finally these ships are planned for delivery in the 2014-2018 timeframe. The Kamorta light frigates weapon system also includes the Barak 8 air and missile defense system and the 3M54 Club anti-ship missile system as well as AK-630M anti-aircraft guns. The ship's superstructure is made of carbon fiber composite material resulting in improved stealth features, lower top weight, and maintenance costs.
