Project 12200

The Project 12200 Sobol class patrol boat has been designed by the Almaz Shipbuilding Company to deliver high speed and almost total automation with ship being operable by a crew of two-man. The vessel is intended for patrol missions in the coastal environment, search and rescue operations (SAR), protection of fisheries, and customs missions. The ship's 28-meter hull is made of an aluminum alloy displacing up to 57 tons. The propulsion system consists of two diesel engines developing 1250-1360 KW of power with two auxiliary electric engines developing 30 KW. The propulsion system develops a top speed of 47 knots. Cruising at 40 knots the Sobol-class vessel has a maximum range of 500 nautical miles. The first ship of this class was delivered to Russia in 2006. The Sobol-class weapon options include a pedestal-mounted 14.5mm machine gun intended to engage surface, underwater and airborne targets. Other armaments available for Sobol are the AK-306 30mm machine gun with 500 rounds and four Vikhr-K anti-armor guided missiles. Vikhr-K missile system is intended to engage small boats, aircraft flying at low altitude and coastal targets. The fire control system consists of a thermal imager with automatic target tracking function.
