Description
The SCR-729 was an airborne secondary surveillance radar identification set, operating in the Very High Frequency (VHF) band between 160 and 186 MHz with a peak power of 500 W and an instrumented range of 60 miles (approximately 100 km). It was designed for the Standard Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Mark III system. The AN/GPX-2 is electrically identical to the SCR-729 but is configured for 19-inch rack mounting, and was utilized in air traffic control for testing aircraft transponders on the ground.
