Description

The Skyfire-70 is a 70mm rocket developed by Avibras Aeroespacial based upon the SBAT-70 (Sistema Brasileiro Ar-Terra 70mm) rocket. It is intended as a high performance air-to-ground rocket system for employment in any type of combat aircraft (F-5BR) or helicopter (Fennec). In the ground-to-ground role, it serves a sub caliber ammunition for the Astros II multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) for training purposes or area saturation ammunition for ranges of up to 12 kilometers on the Astros Hawk light artillery system. The Skyfire-70 rocket has been ordered by the Brazilian Armed Forces and export customers worldwide. The Skyfire-70 presents superior characteristics when compared to the conventional 70mm rockets due to its longer standoff range and better accuracy. The rocket system has three options of rocket-motors, for different ranges, with several different types of warheads.
