Description

The Mig-49 is projected carrier-based, fifth generation stealth fighter being developed by Mig Corporation to meet the requirements of the Russian Navy. The Mig-49 was unveiled during MAKS airshow in July 2021. It features a twin-engine, delta-canard design similar to the Project 1.42/1.44 demonstrator developed by Mig and its size is in the same category of the Mig-35 multirole fighter. The Mig-49 is expected to take to the air for the first time by the mid-2020s becoming operational by 2030. It is being considered the possibility of developing a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) variant based upon the same aircraft design. The Mig-49 will operate along an unmanned air vehicle capable of performing strike and refueling missions based upon the Skat unmanned combat air vehicle.
