Description

The Bulava-M is an improved version of the Bulava Sea-Launched Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (SLBM) featuring increased reliability and most likely increased range as well as enhanced survivability against missile defenses. The Bulava-M ballistic missile will carry multiple nuclear warheads (MIRV) as well as decoys to counter the latest missile defenses. The Russian Navy expects to deploy the new Bulava-M missile onboard the Project 955A Borey II submarines beginning in 2018. The missile range is estimated at 9,300 kilometers, but using hypersonic warheads the range can be extended allowing to reach almost anywhere on Earth. As of 2023, the Bulava-M missile future is uncertain. Some information suggests the Bulava-M may replace the Bulava missile onboard the Borey submarines. The new missile was declared operational in May 2024.
