Description

The vz. 77 Dana is a 28-ton 152mm self-propelled howitzer (SPH) based on a modified Tatra T 815 8x8 truck chassis fitted with a 152mm cannon and operated by a crew of four-man plus the driver. The primary weapon has a maximum range of 18 kilometers with a maximum rate of fire of six short per minute. The 152mm cannon can shot three rounds per minute for 30 minutes. Secondary armament includes a 12.7mm machine gun and a RPG-75 grenade launcher. The Dana SPH is powered by a T-3-930.52 12-cylinder diesel engine developing 265 KW of power allowing a maximum speed of 80 kph on road. The Dana wheeled SPH offers lower operating and maintenance costs compared with tracked SPHs. The original Dana was introduced in 1980 by the extinct Czechoslovakia and manufactured by Skoda. It was exported to Russia, Libya and Poland and in the 2000s was sold to Georgia. The Dana-M2 is an upgraded version introduced in 2022. The ShKH-77 Dana-M1 CZ is an upgraded version of the original Dana artillery system and developed in the late 2000s. The modernization program achieved an increased rate of fire, higher mobility, greater firing accuracy and increased reliability of the system. The Dana-M1 features a new fire control system, central tire inflation system (CTIS), an improved T-3-930 engine, air conditioning, new lighting system, a reverse camera, bullet proof glasses and other chassis improvements. The 12.7mm DSK machine gun has 300 rounds. The 152mm cannon has a range between 4.6 km and 18.7 km or up to 20 km firing rocket assisted projectiles (RAP). It can fire five rounds per minute loaded automatically or only two rounds per minute loaded manually. The Dana-M1 turret carries 24 artillery rounds with the transporter vehicle carrying 36 additional rounds. The combat weight of the modernized Dana is 29,250 kg. The DITA is an upraded version introduced in 2021 and delivered to Czech Army and Ukraine. The DITA uses a 155mm gun with a maximum range of 39 kilometers. The vehicles carries 40 155mm projectiles and charges.
