Description

The Republic of Korea L-SAM is a low, medium and high-altitude air defense system being developed by the Republic of Korea. The system to engage both aircraft and missiles at longer ranges than the M-SAM air defense system. It leverages some technology from the M-SAM weapon system. The weapon system was successfully test fired in February 2022. Its development was completed in November 2024 with mass production starting within 2025 and initial operational capability by 2028. It is somehow the Korean counterpart of the US THAAD missile defense system as well as the Arrow missile system developed by Israel and the US. Each L-SAM weapon system is expected to include a command and control vehicle, combat control station, S-and multifunctional AESA radar, and fire unit vehicles with six missiles per fire unit.
